Reviews

The perfect hike

This was a great experience, Chtistian our guide we kind and thoughtful. The hike itself was fulfilling. Do wear appropriate sneakers and bring water, without them you will suffer. The hike adds a significant dimension to the Montserrat visit, taking it from the typical tourist fare to a closer connection to the mountain and the monastery.
Amazing views with a great tour guide

Hike was great with the right group and the right tour guide, Christian. He was kind and very knowledgeable about this history.
Spectacular scenery with top-class guide

Just wow! This was such an amazing trip, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I went with my husband and a friend, joining five others - a good size for a group hike.

Utterly spectacular scenery, with so many fantastic views in every direction - this was truly a highlight of our holiday.

The monastery and its history were fascinating, although we didn't spend too much time in the actual basilica as it was Sunday and there was some kind of extra service in progress, so we didn't want to intrude.

The hike itself was about the level we expected from previous reviews - around 6km / 4miles, challenging in places, definitely steep at times, but mostly pretty straightforward. The three of us are used to hiking in the hills, but I'd say most folk with a reasonable level of fitness should be fine. It was great to get off the busier paved trail onto the lesser-used trails.

Sometimes the guide really makes the tour - Ramon was lovely, extremely knowledgeable (history, legends, geology and botany all included!) and clearly passionate about the mountains, the environment, and Catalan culture. It was a far cry from broken English through crackly headsets!

The little things were right too - good communication before the trip, comfortable minibus, water provided, lovely snacks on top of the mountain.

All in all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this trip, Catalan Trails, and Ramon himself!
Amazing Hike with history lesson

Cristian was a wonderful and very informative guide providing history of the area. This is a little strenuous for beginners with multiple points of hiking at an incline but Cristian is very patient if you need more time. The snacks provided are delicious. The views are stunning and visiting the monastery is a magical experience. At the end of the hike there is an opportunity to visit a small farmer’s market to buy local cheeses and other items. Bring a jacket as it gets cold due to the early start time this time of year. I highly recommend you don’t miss this amazing opportunity.
A good hike with so much to see

The views were beautiful and the weather was perfect for the occasion. Our guide was personable and reasonably knowledgeable about the area. Our own personal taste would incline us to pick a tour more focused on the activities in the monastery itself next time; this tour is best suited for folk that enjoy a decent hike with an interesting historical context; the area is steeped in important history, religious significance, and atypical geography all of which our guide took careful time to explain when we stopped for pictures (and goodness were there a lot of spots for good pictures!).
