Great experience. The Basque tours team are very knowledgeable about the city it’s history and it is clear when you’re out with them that they are known in Basque country. This gave us a feeling of safety and comfort as well as the added entertainment from having a knowledgeable source. We were treated like royalty wherever they took us. I asked for Jon to guide us on this tour however the team recommended Lide. Lide was amazing, embodied all the compliments I wrote above and more. We had a tour the next day and Lide was supposed to be our guide but they switched last minute to Jon due to my request initially. By that time I had taking a liking to Lide but was reminded during my our tour why I wanted Jon in the first place.
Guys I tell you; you can’t go wrong with Basque tours. This isn’t a cheesy tourist trap. Obviously everyone Basque tours introduces you to know you’re a tourist. The difference is that you do get exclusive access to the towns and villages in a way that seemed like you really need connections for. For example; Jon took us to a fishing town. There he showed us the aquariums where the restaurant we were going to have lunch in keeps their fish. Then he showed me the owner’s wine cellar (the restaurants in San Sebastian are you usually family owned and operated). This was a two storey room large with all kinds of pictures (shelves of wine obviously) from across the globe with pictures and memorabilia of the who’s who internationally. You don’t expect this kind of thing from these kind of tours, that personable super vip exclusive access all at once. I think that is a testament to the beauty of the Basque country and equally to the quality of the Basque tours team!
A wonderful gastronomic experience and way to understand the Basque culture and their farm to table way of life.
We highly recommend this wine and pinxtos tour — a memorable evening that ended at a local bar meeting wonderful people - Jani knows everyone - her energy is contagious … we miss her already.
